Late or Early ?

I used this long Labor Day weekend for some late spring cleaning or early fall cleaning - whatever works. I also took the opportunity to do a few small home improvement and painting projects. We usually hang around town because it's both Joseph and Benjamin's birthdays this weekend. We gave them cash - they are now getting to be at the age where they have a wish list of things they want to buy.

The next day, I went for a run in Central Park. It has been really hot here in SoCal and there have been huge wild fires up north of LA, so I got out early before the heat and smoke made running tough. As I rounded a bend, look what I saw - my forever obsession - the Egyptian Geese had a flock of 7 chicks.

They are just the cutest - now there are 18 of them in Huntington Beach Central Park.

The other big deal in HB over Labor Day is the Civil War Re-enactment that brings people from all over the place. At least it wasn't as hot as the event at Riley's Farm in July.

Luckily, the park has lots of shade, and most of the event was under the trees.

Here is the command center.

There wasn't a lot of activity this early in the morning.

But folks were starting to get up and get things all set up for the spectators.

Breakfast and coffee were being prepared.

It wasn't long before the crowd began to arrive.

The more stalwart campers slept in tiny pup tents.

But they did manage to set up elegant breakfast tables.

Look how pretty and cultured their dining areas are !!

One of my favorite tents is the combo of Chinese Laundry/ Tavern/ French Girls offering.

I guess Faro Games are some form of gambling.

Just like now, people begin to enjoy their libations very early. I'm sure that it makes all the hard work and the heat more tolerable.

The band was up early, all dressed and ready for practice.

There were a lot of ladies in their Civil War finery, ready to visit and socialize.

Look at these pretty lasses, greeting one another.

There wasn't a lot of action around pup tent central, but I would bet that these guys were in the band or one of the other attractions.

One of the larger fields had cannon set up. There were four of them.

I have never seen them fire, but I am guessing that these buckets have black powder and other ammo in them.

They are unloaded from large wagons and set up in formation.

There is also a morning prayer area set up for those who want to give praise.

Those folks were also getting the coffee and rolls ready for the group.

One man brought his 1862 Gatling Gun.

It's a pretty impressive piece of armament.

Later in the day, Doc had a medical event for patients to come and be serviced at a one stop venue.
This is what I wore to go and say hello. Of course, I did not take pictures at the event, because patients deserve their privacy.

This is a Sunny Leigh crystal pleated island style dress - almost like a muumuu.

Here's a better look at the print.

The only accessory was my necklace that I got as a souvenir in San Luis Obispo a few years ago.

The final wearing of the Style and Company wedges before they go into the rubbish - they are pretty worn out.
