Groovy, Baby !!!!

Oh Behave!!!! Today's Carole Little dress reminds me of Austin Powers with its purple paisley pattern. (That's a mouthful)

I wore my Coldwater Creek metal belt with it. This thing is heavy.

But I like the Celtic knot design. I also wore my triple strand necklace in silver and pewter tones.

Continuing with the silver theme, on my left hand, an amethyst/opal ring and my leather bracelet that was a souvenir from Baltimore.

On my right hand, a tanzanite ring and my Brighton bracelet.

I finished the look off with my black suede and silver Audrey Brooks pumps and my white bag.

I'll leave you with the flowers that a sweet friend brought yesterday.

By The Light of The Silvery Moon

I'm sure that everyone has heard that we had a Blood Moon combined with a total lunar eclipse last night. I had heard rumblings about the end of the world being a result of this, but I woke up this morning, so I guess that was yet another hoax. We could see the entire thing from the dining room of Casa de Holtzman. Here's is my terrible crummy shot of the event.

And here is NASA's shot.

It comes as no surprise that theirs is better. Anyway, the next time this happens, I will be 88, so I probably won't care. But let's get to more important things, like what I did and wore over the weekend.

On Saturday, the entire Holtzman clan gathered at my inlaws house so that we could give them all their flu shots for this year. It's wise to immunize!!!! Afterwards, Doc wanted to go to the mall to look at videos and get an Orange Julius. So I left him to lurk in BookOff, while I took a stroll around Macy's. I got something that I saw when I was in Orlando, but didn't have enough cargo space to carry back with me. I was very happy to see them again, and on sale again.

Some Coach driving loafers!! There was only one pair, and they were my size, so it's Kismet!!!

On Sunday morning, this was the view from beautiful Huntington Beach. It was in the mid 80s.

I was meeting a friend for lunch, so I went early to take a walk. I was concerned that the marine layer you see here in this pic would make it too chilly, but by the time I walked down to the pier, it was hot.

There was a paddle board contest going on. We had lunch at Chipotle. I got a carnitas salad. It was rather large, so I ate half of it and then ate the other half later.

When I got home, we went down to visit my mom. She wanted to go to the store, but can't carry everything she wanted. I wore a long polyester dress that I got at Target.

Sometimes I feel like I am wearing a nightgown when I wear this dress, but I received a bunch of compliments, so I guess it's all good. Doc especially liked it, but then, he IS a hippie at heart. I wore a Swarovksi crystal necklace that I got in the 1980s, and it was my first Swarovski piece.

On my right hand, I wore my Nordstrom veiny boulder ring and a few cheapy costume bangles.

On my left arm, a costume bracelet from Stacey's Closet and my wedding set. I don't always wear a wedding ring, but if I don't, my mom yells at me (still getting time outs at 56).

And now, it's back to work for me. Here's what I am wearing:

This is a pair of light gray slacks by Odds and Ends, and a high-low tunic by Hang Ten. I wore a long costume silver necklace that I got at the hospital gift shop.

It jingles when I walk. On my right arm, my mother of pearl spaceship ring and my tin can bracelet.

On my left arm, another MOP ring, and another silver costume bracelet. I'm sticking to a theme here.

And of course, I'm finishing it off with my grey Nine West shoes.

Orange You Happy??

Why, yes I am !!! And this sunny outfit that goes along with this sunny day helps alot:

This print mesh sheath is orange and purple paisley and is made by La Belle. I paired it with equally sunny, but not quite matching yellow sandals from Old Navy.

And the citrus parade continues with my orange crystal necklace.

On my right arm, I have a topaz ring and two silver bracelets. On my left arm, a citrine ring and two more silver bracelets.

So yesterday, my new housekeeper, Amy started. My other one, Isabel, had a baby boy!!! Congratulations to mama and baby. So Elli had to be crated, lest she escape out the front door when Amy's back was turned. Here she is, before the capture.

So peaceful. No idea as to what is about to happen next. And away we go.....

That is just too sad. So I gave her a bowl of chicken to drown her sorrows in when I released her.

So lots of links since I was AWOL in the OR yesterday. Alice from www.happinessatmidlife.com, Nicole at www.highlatitudestyle.com, JoLynne at www.jolynneshane.com, Christie at www.theclosetbychristie.com, and Dawn Lucy at www.fashionshouldbefun.com. Whew. Have a great weekend!!!

PS There are three hospitals in Orange Count that get picked as the best in the county. Our sister facility, Saddleback, came in first, we came in second, and Hoag placed third. Yay for Orange  Coast!!!!

The Grapes of Wrath

I was sad yesterday, because my sweet friend had something happen that was upsetting, to say the least. It is always harder for me to watch someone dear to me go through crap than for me to go through it myself. But we got together and made a game plan to figure it out. So now I feel a lot better. So onto the title of this post.

Remember this grape colored suit that I got in Santa Barbara? It has a matching crepe skirt that is way too big, and I don't want to alter it, so I'll give it away. I combined it with the print skirt from my Albert Nipon suit.

I like this outfit a lot. I wore a purple Swarovksi crystal necklace to coordinate with the iridescent beading at the neckline of the top.

Then I turned the sleeves up once to showcase some amethyst jewelry. On my left arm:

Two amethyst and diamond bracelets, and a ring that Doc had custom made for me when one of his patients couldn't pay their bill. Win-Win with the barter system!!! On my right arm:

A ying-yang ring of amethyst and blue topaz, and the same stretchy Saks bracelet as yesterday. I wore my Dolce Vita sandals, since they are really comfy. You can see the double chiffon layers of the Nipon skirt here.

So it's Wednesday, so let's join our blogger buddies !!! First, Tameka from www.pastriespumpsandpi.blogspot.com has Who's Wearing What Wednesday. Old Yeller

I title this post because I am wearing a vintage suit jacket with tones of yellow in it:

The ivory slacks are by Ann Taylor, and the jacket is Le Suit. I doubled up on necklaces. The shorter one is yellow diamond.

The longer tassel is made by INC.

So are my black suede pumps with gold studs scattered across them:

On my left arm, I have my wedding set and a stretchy crystal bracelet from Saks.

On my right arm, another vintage item, this time a huge smoky topaz ring.

Since I blabbed so much yesterday, today I am keeping it short and sweet. We will end by linking up with Jess from www.elegantlydressedandstylish.com for Turning Heads Tuesday. Then, Cherie from www.stylenudge.com for Shoe and Tell (usually Monday, but no invite this week), and lastly, Laura at www.walkinginmemphisinhighheels.com for Trend Spin. Have a great day, and just maybe I will feel happier tomorrow.

What the World Needs Now, is Love, Sweet Love

The Beatles said it best - "all you need is Love, Love is all you need." I agree. I am so lucky!!! Okay, enough mush. Let's get to the jam packed weekend post !!

First, on Friday night, I got my Birchbox for September.

Why, Thank You !!! Here's what was inside:

1) Tocca Esfoliante da Corpo in Giulietta - a sugar and olive oil exfoliant
2) Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium -  giving this away, because I have black brows.
3) Malin and Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser and hyaluronic acid cream - I can always use these
4) L'Artisan Parfumeur in La Chasse Aux Papillons - orang blossom, jasmine, lime, and tuberose
5) amika The Shield Style Extending Spray - A heat activated formula that protects against heat and UV.

I will let you know how these work out. I did use one of the products from a previous Birchbox last night:

Masqueology Mushroom Extract Pore Minimizing Masque - very lush and soft. Even Doc said my face looked great. I will be buying more of these. I also went to Ulta and got a Beauty Blender.

You wet it, wring it out, and it expands. Then you use it to stipple your makeup on for a flawless finish. I think this also worked really well. I'll let you know how long it lasts.

On Saturday, we went to the Pacific Islander Fair at HB Central Park.

It was hot. Here was the booth with the VIPS. There were lots of islands represented.

There were lots of demonstrations of native dancing. Here were the famous hula dancers.

The ones in red were teenagers, and called wahine. Their dance was almost entirely done in a squatting position. They must have some strong legs!!!

Then we hit the food booths. First stop, Samoa.

This plate lunch had chicken, sausage, pancit, rice and fried plantains. We liked it all, except the plantains - they are a bit bland. The pancit is very flavorful, more so than Chinese Lo Mein.
Then we hit the booth from Guam.

This is called Chicken Kelaguen. It is a chopped chicken dish, spiced with rice vinegar, pepper and chilis. It is served with a thick flat bread called titiyas. It was good. Finally, we hit the beautiful islands of Hawai'i - one of my favorite places on earth. We had Lau Lau.

This dish is pork and butterfish, wrapped in taro leaves. The taro reminds me of collard greens. Then the package is wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. You don't eat the ti leaves. It came with rice, watermelon, and spam musubi. It was a very fun event.

So, it's kind of amazing that I fit into my clothes today :).

I am wearing a beautiful snow white pantsuit from Jones New York. There are pockets in both the pants and jacket. Underneath, I have a mango colored tank from Cache.

There are mango crystals along the zipper and pull. The mesh necklace is by Avon. I wore floral Anne Klein D'orsay pumps.

On my right arm, my Saks white enamel/crystal ring and bracelet duo.

On my left arm, my Neiman Marcus crystal/bead bracelet, and a gold ring, topped by a garnet/blue topaz ring.

I'll quickly do some linking. First, Patti at www.notdeadyetsytle.com has Visible Monday. Then, Ana Luiza at www.northwestblonde.com has Start the Week Stylish. Next, Deb from www.elegantlyfashionable.com has Classy Monday. And finally, Rachellle from www.pinksole.com has How I Fall.

One more thing - there seems to be a rash of black widow spiders around SoCal lately. This spider bite is said to be the most painful insect bite one can endure - much worse than a rattlesnake. Doc found a mama, a baby, and an egg sack in our patio.

This is what they look like. Be careful!!!! See you all later !!!
