A Couple of Black Tie Occasions

Now that we have officially all forgotten or gotten used to the pandemic, big parties are happening again. This month has a bridal shower, a Fall Gala, and a wedding. But's let's go in order and start with some outfits.

Way back on September 18th, I wore a handmade jacket that I rediscovered when I decorated my She Shed. Doc loved it because it is so colorful. I did get a lot of compliments.

I wore it with my tried-and-true black ponte pants from Express. I added a teal blue silk tank that had tonal bugle bead trim.

September 20th brought a few challenges. Not my outfit - it was great. I wore a brown cami with lace trim, along with wool slacks from AnnTaylor. The blazer is a crazy weird thing that I got at a sample sale up in LA many years ago It has raw edges and is glen plaid. It has embroidery all over it - the front is mostly fall floral themed, but the back has a poem in bright blue on one entire side. People loved it.

The bad part is that I was supposed to go on a field trip. The day before, we went to Emerald Linens, and I had no problems. But I got about five minutes from the hospital, and already had ten calls, mostly involving two topics. I had to pull over and answer them which took fifty minutes. So, the mission was aborted, and I came back to the hospital.

The next day was cooler and felt more like fall. I wore a slinky knit print skirt with a rose velour lace trimmed tank. Then I topped it with a brown suede jacket from Bebe.

Mostly rose-gold jewelry, mostly inherited from my mom.

On September 22nd, another heat wave began. This knit dress with the Cleopatra sequin collar is the best. I wore it in Las Vegas once and ended up parting with KC and the Sunshine Band.

I love black and gold together - it's my favorite combination.

The heat wave was in full force on September 23rd. I wore my New York print rayon sheath from Weekend Traffic. I used to go to their warehouse sales.

I wore a white denim jean jacket from Nordstrom on top.  A lady at Trader Joe's squealed when she saw me. She was a Weekend Traffic fan.

On September 26th, I wore one of my favorite outfits. I wear different ivory pants with it, but always a gold lurex tank from St John, and the showpiece - a navy cardigan from Celine.

I wore a coin from the Vatican that was my mom's, and a LV lock pendant.

It was a couple degrees cooler by the 27th. This slinky knit skirt is black with white stitching and is from Clifford and Wills. The top is black, grey and white and I took the jet jeweled belt from a dress. I liked this and it was comfy.

The next day, I wanted to wear something colorful, so this tropical print sheath was perfect.

And it has my favorite black and gold on the edges, so my Versace belt was the answer.

That day, I bought stuff for the bridal shower. The bride, Nhien, was excited to experience an American shower, since she is Vietnamese. I got her a gift, and I made three gifts for the games - candles, socks, beauty items, candy, etc.

On October 9th, I was planning to go to the Fall Gala. I wore this dress that I got at consignment. It is a heavy satin duchess fabric.

It has flat silver studs on the straight neckline, and down the entire side, to the slit hem.

It has spaghetti straps and a lace-up back. It's actually very comfy.

Pandi still loves me!!!

I wore another favorite dress of mine on September 29th. It's a textured linen blend fabric with a keyhole back, from Saks Fifth Avenue Black.

Black, gold, and red stones for my jewelry.

The shower was September 30th. I wore a polyester tunic dress with black bugle bead trim, and a houndstooth/venice lace jacket from Chico's.

I wore some LV tights that I bought during the pandemic and wondered if I would ever wear them. So, I finally did, and they are very nice tights. I wore black lug sole boots that I got for $1.99 at the St Vincent DePaul shop in Long Beach. They do not have good insoles. You can feel the screws, thus the discount. I put some foam insoles in them, and it was fine.

Here's the shower. We had a parfait bar. You could have vanilla yogurt, strawberry yogurt or vanilla bean ice cream. Then we had three kinds of berries. And granola clusters for the layers.

There were also Krispy Kreme donuts and chocolate profiteroles.

This is the bride, Nhien. She is marrying a gentleman from East India, and I cannot wait for the food and booze at a black-tie wedding.

This is Daniel, my new partner in crime at the hospital.

And many pictures of my coworkers with the gifts they gave Nhien.

My Birchbox came. It did not come with a decorative inner box.

Inside, from left to right:

1) Milk Makeup Matte Stick Bronzer

2) Byroe New York Tofu Gel Cream

3) Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blow Out Cream

4) purlisse Matcha Green Tea and Lemon Detoxifying Charcoal Mask.

5) Balance Me AHA Glow Mask.

On October 3rd, I got to wear a few consignment items that I have found over the summer and planned to wear in the Fall.

I combined a navy print dress, navy tights, and tan booties from Forever 21.

It was still a little toasty on October 4th. I wore a nautical outfit. The white slacks are from Katayone Adeli, and the jacket is Henri Bendel, a luxury store brand from the 80s.

My ruffled tank is INC. I did not like the look and will wear a plain white tank next time.

The next day, October 5th, I wore some NY and Company pixie slacks. They are a tan and black check pattern, but they were a bit too big so you can see them all crunched up here and there.

I did love that everything else was black and gold.

On October 6th, I wore a peasant style dress from H&M. I love to wear it with my Top Moda cognac suede lug sole booties.

I wore brown lacy tights over regular nude hose, for more of a secure feeling.

On Friday, Daniel and I stalked the CVOR. I wore an outfit that would easily lend itself to a surgical bunny suit. I chose my Old Navy brown leggings and a St John boucle knit top.

I got my Ipsy Bag. Inside, from top to bottom:

1) Anastasia Beverly Hills Deluxe Magic Touch Concealer.

2) Shades By Shan Lipstick in San Francisco - a matte brick shade, I had to use clear gloss over it.

3) Sephora Collection Smooth and Blur Primer

4) Dermatologists Choice Deep Cleansing Facial Mask with AHA and BHA

5) Hey Honey A.C.E. It Vitamin Blend Hydration Enhancer

So here I am on the night of the Gala.  It was fun - it was nice to get out and have fun.

On Monday, October 10th, I went all fall inspired. We went to New Employee Orientation and called ourselves Pumpkin Spice - I am Pumpkin and Daniel is Spice. We were both wearing shades of Orange.

My orange sweater is from H&M. My polyester pinstripe skirt with an embroidered band is Apt 9.

Lotsa costume amber and Swarovksi crystals.

Doc's new post retirement hobby is cooking. This is Doc's first attempt at a Shepherd's Pie. He used Beyond Beef and added 2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar to the meat. It was delicious.

Today, we had the opportunity to participate in a Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Photo. I wore a fuchsia knit cold shoulder top with burgundy and hot pink tweed slacks.

It has gold beaded straps, and I wore a Givenchy crystal necklace.

So that's all - the wedding is this weekend. and Doc and I are getting dolled up. It should be fun.

Stay tuned for more unbelievable excitement!!
