Spectacular Seven!!!

Today is my first grandchild's 7th birthday. Our sweet, kind Preston is already 7!!! So we went out to the ranch to celebrate. But first, the gift. Doc told me that as a child, his favorite gift ever was a treasure chest that his Grandma Aurora gave him, filled with silver dollars. So we attempted to recreate it. We started with a moving, animated robot card:

And of course, we put it in a monkey bag.

I found the treasure chest at Hobby Lobby.

Here it is, opened up.

Then Doc filled it with Liberty silver dollars, which we put in a burgundy velvet bag.

And here it is, all ready to go !!

The party had an army/military theme.

There was a giant burrito and chips and salsa for lunch.

There was also a pin the tail on the donkey game, only done with tanks. Preston's cousins were pretty good at it.

Ashley even got a camouflage cake. It was all chocolate inside with a fudge filling.

Here's a better look at the top. Isn't that cool?

Of course, we visited with the girls - Preston's chickens, from whom we get our beautiful multi colored eggs.

He has three new girls that are big enough to scratch outside their little cage, but not big enough for the coop yet. He also has three tiny girls who still need to stay in their little birdcage for a while.

Of course, Fertile the Turtle had to come check out Preston's new tether ball game.

Ashley picked some of their home grown zucchini for us.

Elli came, and she had fun visiting with Baxter and Annie, her doggie cousins. She even went with us to the next stop, the Scandia Family Fun Center.

We rode go karts and bumper boats (Elli didn't participate in this) and then Doc and I did the batting cages and all the shooting games while he held her with one hand. We were both good at the batting cages, but Doc beat me at the shooting most of the time, even while holding Elli in one hand.

Then it was time to open gifts. Here is the roll out:

Here is Preston, looking at all the gifts.

He opened the one in the Cars gift bag first. See Baxter in his cone in the bottom right corner? He hurt his eye chasing a squirrel. He is a Yorkshire Terrier.

It was a set of cars that you operate with your cell phone.

He really liked the robot card. That is Annie's tail there - she is a beautiful German Shepherd Dog.

I guess I tied the velvet bag too tight, but he finally got it open.

He was thrilled!!! He has quite the coin collection, mostly thanks to Great Grandma Angy. He added the silver dollars to his stash in the present his parents gave him, a half sized safe.

It was 110 degrees on Sunday morning, so we went out to breakfast at Denny's for Father's Day, and then headed back to Huntington Beach, where it was only 90 degrees. On the way, we stopped at Carriage House Antiques.

I am locking my car in this one. Elli came along for the trip. There were a couple of other dogs in there, including the owner's. I got a bunny salt and pepper set and a bunny ceramic box for Ashley. I noticed that she likes bunnies, and I thought it would make a nice hostess gift for her. I forgot to take a picture. For myself, I found two things.

First, a perfume bottle for my collection. It even has the bulb with the tassel.

Then I got a milk glass dish to put my jewelry in after I take it off, and to put it in when I am fixing my outfits the night before I wear them.

So that was a great weekend, and now, back to work. Today is said to be the hottest day of the heat wave, and it's supposed to be 94 degrees here in Huntington Beach. I will be staying inside at work, and then I have some shopping to do this evening, so I will be staying cool. Here is what I wore:

This is a silk wrap around skirt from Due Et Due, topped with a thin white knit top that has tiny silver studs all over it, in a kind of Fleur de Lis pattern (sorry you can't see it).

This thick silver cable necklace with an onyx pendant was my mom's.

On my right arm, a mother of pearl spaceship ring, and a thick silver bracelet that was also my mom's.

On my left arm, my white gold marquis diamond and a garnet bracelet that was my mom's. I am sure enjoying wearing her legacy, which I know she would love to see.

I finished it off with my reptile sandals from Nordstrom.

Well, that is finally it!!! I am linking with Deb at www.elegantlyfashionable.com and with Cherie at www.stylenudge.com. Have a great day, wherever you are, and stay cool if you're in Socal. !!!
