I'm A Big City Gal Now

So this will be my last day of work before heading out to the bright lights and big cities of the East Coast. I mentioned yesterday that we are having another heat wave here in SoCal. It is predicted to reach 99 degress here AT THE BEACH. Viva Boston!!! It is forecast to be in the mid to upper sixties there. I have cleverly planned an outfit that will pay tribute to the skyscrapers of the world beyond Huntington Beach, while at the same time, keeping me cool. Here it is:

Ain't it cute? I got another one at the same time that has the Paris skyline with the Eiffel Tower on it, only it has a black background. Both are made by a brand called Weekend Traffic. The brand is manufactured in Irvine, Ca, which is 8 miles down the 405 freeway. I used to work in Irvine. Every season, Weekend Traffic would have a preseason warehouse sale, where everything was $10, $15, or $20. I always got several items. I haven't been in many years, and don't even know if they are still around. Here is a closeup of the border print on the American version:

The little shrug is made by Cinit. I got it at a strip mall store somewhere, sometime. To compliment the pale blue color of the dress, I wore two layered faux turquoise necklaces. You can also see the silver lurex thread in the shrug in this picture.

For my arms, I went all costume today. On my left, a stretchy bangle with plastic beads, and a blue enamel ring with a green stone. On my right, a vintage ring and a brass cuff with a large blue agate slab. I rarely wear it, because it twists around on my arm, and the slab is always facing down.

For shoes, I chose the elastic Madden Girl wedges that I got for around $9 at the Macy's Labor Day sale.

I am cool and comfy and ready to rumble !!! Since my posting will be spotty for the next few days, I am linking to 3 different sites today, just for kicks. Look at all 3 if you have a chance. They are www.diaryofabrwneyedgirl.blogspot.com, www.pennilesssocialite.blogpsot.com, and www.stylelixir.com. See you all soon!!!

Packin' It Up, and Headin' On Out

As you may know, I am going on an extended vacation. Part of it is pure pleasure, checking one off our bucket list, and part of it is business, but very important business this time.

So let's talk about the fun part, the pleasure treasure. Doc and I are going to Boston. It will be the first time for both of us. We are staying at the Westin, right on the waterfront. It was pricy, but this vacation is when we are going to pretend that we live like "the other half." We're going lux for a change. I work for a medical system that is non-profit, and awards employees well for performance. So I got a really nice profit sharing bonus last year, and this is the first time we have been able to avail ourselves of it.

The second part is a professional benefit that I am completely excited about!!! Every year, I am mandated to attend a professional conference in order to ensure that my skills are up to date. I have two choices of organizations:

1) APIC - Affiliated Professionals in Infection Control

2) SHEA - Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.

This year, I chose SHEA, because it's in Philadelphia. APIC was in Anaheim, which is about 15 minutes from where I live. I realize that Disneyland and Orange County are meccas for tourists ( and deservedly so), but I want some East Coast glamour. My organization will cover the cost of SHEA, in Philadelphia. So we have to pay for Doc's airfare, Elli's boarding, and all of the Boston leg of the trip.

So that sets the scene for the next few days. I need some comfy, sight-seeing, crusin' duds, but then I have to bring professional gear for the conference - I am a representative of my organization, and I so appreciate the travel authorization, that I need to DO IT UP.

In the next post, I will show you how I plan for a trip such as this extravaganza. Until then.

OMG. We may have a slight stowaway problem here. I will miss Elster Bellster Bellsty Boo.
