A Lot of Stuff Happened

So this happened this week:

We had rain on both Wednesday and Thursday, and when I left work at around 4 PM on Thursday, this beautiful double rainbow was waiting for me. It was one of the most gorgeous sights I have ever seen.

This also happened :

I got a stand-up desk !!! Now when my flat butt hurts, I can stand up and still get my work done.

And then this happened :

We had a little Christmas party at a restaurant called Blugold, down in downtown Huntington Beach. I had a big bowl of cioppino.

And finally, this happened :

We have a lot of antique weapons displayed as art around our home. One of those pieces is this gherka. Whenever my mom gets upset (she is in the spirit world), it falls off and leaves us a message. This time, I was at work and Doc heard the crash. This was the scene:

Two mugs were broken - one said "Best Father Ever" and one said "Hard Rock Cafe". We recently got some strange and confusing news about my niece. This particular piece of news would NOT have made my mom happy if she were still alive.

You can see how far the pieces flew - there was anger involved.

And the funny thing is, the nail from which the gherka hangs is always still there after an event.

So both Doc and I tried to connect with my mom by talking to her and we both felt that she was more resigned to what had happened. There is nothing we can do about my niece now, since it is something that cannot ever be undone. Then the rainbow happened the next day. I am not so conceited that I think it was only for me - I do think that God was trying to give all those who are suffering some comfort.

So what did I wear during this eventful week?

This is an ombre metallic sweater from NY Collection. I paired it with my trusty Express ponte pants that I have had forever.

Two necklaces - one matte gold tone with black cabochons and one gold chain with a Nordic battle axe - it's such a cool piece of jewelry.

On Tuesday, more lurex - tis the season. This time, I wore a JM collection gold lurex cowl neck sweater and a plaid skirt with gold lurex shot through it. It's from The Limited.

The sweater has this lace inset. I wore two emerald/diamond necklaces and my Hermes CDC.

On Wednesday, the rain began. I wore a different pair of ponte pants, by Reebok. On top, a long lab type jacket from Petite Sophisticate.

Underneath, I wore a plain black cashmere turtleneck, and then a plaid camisole style top that I have also had forever.

Silver jewelry today - a long herringbone chain and black/silver Austrian crystals at neck and wrists.

On Thursday, it really poured. But I was set with more shiny stuff. The silver jacket is from Jessica McClintock. The gray pinstriped slacks are also from The Limited.

My super sparkly silver and black lurex tunic is from a brand called Croquet Club.

The silver herringbone made another appearance, along with a vintage Oriental style pendant that was my mom's. I hope that my wearing it made her feel a little better about things. My belt is Brighton.

On Friday, for the Christmas party, I wanted to look even more festive than I normally do. This scuba skater style dress is from Anna B. The black cardigan had bugle beads and sequins and is from Barandi.

The hem of the dress is elaborately embellished with Venice lace applique.

I wore a costume necklace in silver with jet accents, a pewter/leather cuff that I got as a souvenir in Baltimore, and my Fitbit. Sadly, the Fitbit fell off at one of my meetings. Maybe it will reappear. About a week ago, my CDC fell off, and I figured that I would NEVER see that again, but some kind soul actually turned it into the hospital Lost and Found. So maybe the Fitbit will surface.
