So what about Preston? He turned 6 on Saturday. I remember the day he was born. He was born at the hospital I now work for, although I didn't 6 years ago. We had a party for him. We got his favorite, Kentucky Fried Chicken, extra crispy. Doc called and asked what sides to get, and I said "He's a little kid - get fries and mac and cheese". And a feast was born. We gave him the remote control helicopter we bought last weekend. He said "this is a lot of money!!!". So cute.
Here he is, blowing out his candles. We had a Turtle cake. It's chocolate cake with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Yum.
On Saturday morning, I went for a hike with the hiking club from work. We walked the Huntington Beach Wetlands, which is a game preserve, predominately for sea birds. This club is very enjoyable. I walked with Christine, Meredith, Alice and her friend, whose name I cannot remember. There was a stork or heron that followed us during the entire walk. We were joking - he either fell in love with us, or he knows that people = food, even though you are not supposed to feed the wildlife.
We walked for about an hour and a half and logged 5 miles.
When I got home, I was showering up and I saw the Fed Ex truck out front. I have ordered a toy for myself (the reveal will follow) so I was excited. But it wasn't my toy. It was something better!!!
Shari's Berries!!!! Yum!!! Luke sent them for Doc for Father's Day. Such a good son.
And here are the strawberries.
But there was more - we also got Shari's cherries. I looooovvveee cherries, so that was especially good for me (even though I was not the recipient, Doc happily shared.)
Then we spent the afternoon cleaning out the huge attic above our garage. As fate would have it, just as we were getting ready to load the car to donate the stuff, a Mexican couple pulled up with their truck, and asked if they could have the metal objects. We had a couple of Mayo stands, a gooseneck lamp and some folding screens, all stuff that Doc used in his first medical practice. They carried it all away for us. Then the adorable little girls from down the street wanted the typewriter. So I told them to ask their mommy if they could have it, and away it went. I walked around the house looking for anything we don't need, but there really is nothing left to donate. We have pared down to the things we actually use.
My extensive wardrobe has been likewise thinned, but I still have a lot of stuff. I only kept my favorites, and my nice designer labels. Everything else was given away for others to use and enjoy. Don't worry - I still have enough clothes to last several lifetimes. Oh well, we all have our vices.
Here's our little Elli, laying on the laundry pile. She loves that. I had to be careful when I was cleaning my closet. I didn't want to inadvertently give her away with the discards.
On Sunday, I gave Doc a very special card for his special day:

Then I asked him where he wanted to go for his Father's Day lunch. He said he would prefer breakfast, so we went to the corner restaurant, the Magnolia Cafe. It was pandemonium, so we sat at the counter (for the full diner experience) .
We both got salads, even though Doc wanted breakfast.
Then Doc got a Joe's Favorite omelet - spinach, ground beef, and cheese.
I got what I always order - country fried chicken.
I will be having two pieces for lunch today. Then we went for a walk down by the pier.
Now we are back to work on a Monday morning. And what am I wearing?
