But it's still very warm here in Huntington Beach. We got up to the low 80s over the weekend. Doc can't wait until it cools down. I am the opposite - I hate to be cold.
So what have we been doing? Not a lot. I go running or garden or cook when I have time. Doc is working quite a bit remotely, so that's good. And actually, we go to our fair share of stores. We always wear shooting glasses, masks and gloves when we shop, and they all get tossed and our hands sanitized before we touch the steering wheel. I also clean my steering wheel at the car wash, but it's affecting the leather.
We will start our odyssey back on September 19th. I cooked up a fiesta de Mexico that day:
We had taquitos, burritos, frijoles con queso, arroz, avocado, and salsa de guacamole. Pig fest.
I also got my Ipsy bag, but very delayed. They sent out an email explaining the situation.
From top to bottom:
1) Veriphy Skincare 2020 Phytoglycogen and peptides Eye Cream. Very pricy depuffing cream. I will experiment.
2)PIXI by Petra Endless Silky Eye Pen in Black Caviar.
3) Tarte Cosmetics Big Ego Mascara in Black. Need new mascara soon, so voila.
4) Purlisse Beauty Youth Glow Vitamin C CC Cream SPF 50 in Medium. Whew.
5) Benefit Cosmetics Porfessional Hydrate Primer - great stuff.
I also took a load of shoes to the cobbler. I buy the best shoes that I can afford, or I find them on deep discount, and I get them reheeled as needed. They can be fixed two or three times before they are down for the count.
Here are the ones I took in at the end of summer. They were all heeled and cleaned.
Nine West tan suede Maryjanes with black grosgrain ribbon trim purchased at Saks Off Fifth in Orlando.
Leopoldo Girodano brown patent and velvet Maryjanes with embroidery and faux fur, purchased at the Queen Bee in Newport Beach.
Ivanka Trump sandals - white and tan leather with gold studs purchased at Nordstrom.
Very unusual and therefore irreplaceable satin booties with Chantilly lace trim in ivory/black purchased from Spiegel catalog MANY moons ago.
Coach stiletto sandals in cognac leather with gold logo studs purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue.
My flowers are doing wonderfully. Here are some little nosegays that I made:
Miniature pink roses and stock. It is in the garden window, among the bunnies.
And a gold zinnia with stock. It lives on the coffee table in the living room.
By September 30th, the mini roses were going crazy. Look at these.
I have a tiny mini-suguaro cactus. He has three limbs that have buds that look like Mickey Mouse ears:
Here he is, in his tiny glory. He wears an alpaca sock on his long limb that seems to be dormant.
This next recipe is one that I have made three times in the last 2 weeks. It takes a little bit of cubed chicken breasts, and then whatever veggies you have, with rice and stir fry sauce.
The sauce is chicken broth, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, sugar, etc. But oh yum.
So let's get to the outfits. I will try to remember where I went that day.
For work, I wore a navy crepe knit dress with black leather trim from Saks. Shoes are Gucci.
Work again. This dress came from a shop in Burbank that sells clothes that were used in TV/movies. All pieces are $5 or $10. This dress was made for a thirties or forties era show.
It is crepe that looks sort of like reptile. It has a ton of details - peplum, button back, pleats over rump, kick pleat at hem, that are very authentic. It is executed cheaply, however. No lining, no finishing.
But it's cute and comfy, so I like it. I wore this multi-toned metal costume necklace since the dress is black and white.
The next day, I worked a half day and then we went down to Costa Mesa to go to Book Off. We both got books. We love to get books. We are hitting the used bookstores and thrift shops until the library reopens.
This corny pants outfit is from a local brand called Weekend Traffic. The T shirt is from JCPenney. It has promise. I have just washed it, and if it stays exactly like new, then I love it.
Look at the Miami Vice pants legs.
And of course, robins egg blue fingernails and a giant white onyx ring.
The next day it was back to work. A St John boucle shift was very ladylike. In a couple more pictures, you will be able to see the elaborate black beading at the neckline, hem and patch pockets.
Mt shoes are TopShop from Nordstrom. The heels are black plastic that looks like marble, and was a perfect accent to the boucle jacket.
The jacket is Carole Little. It has tulle trim with square stud accents.
The aforementioned trim. There are four rows in each of the places -neck, hem, pockets.
Then, a weekend. It is still pretty warm here and there, so I have to wear something cooler. But I had a meeting this day, so a jacket was in order.
This skirt and top are both from Ann Taylor.
The jacket is the top half of a Tahari suit. It has satin finish trim on the lapels and at the hem.
This statement necklace is also costume.
My stretchy bracelet is INC that I got in Las Vegas, and the crystal/enamel ring is from Neiman Marcus.
So the next day was the peak of a heat wave. It got up to 90 degrees here at the beach, which is pretty crazy.
I wore some ancient olive satin cargo pants and a satin top.
I have been working the costume jewelry hard lately. The necklaces were my mom's, and the bracelet is from Neiman Marcus.
The next day I decided to go more formal, since I had to be out and about in the hospital. My outfit started with ivory slacks from White House Black Market and a sequined tank in a brown and black animal pattern.
On top, my favorite blazer from Escada.
Another super hot day before a three day weekend. This sundress is INC. It has tiny silver studs all over it.
A white linen jacket from Focus 2000 topped it. It has gold braid trim around the neckline and sleeves.
Yesterday, I wore some crepe knit slacks from Amanda Smith. I wore a navy knit tank from INC and a cardigan that I got at Macy's for less than $5.
This crazy belt came from Cache - that was a store that was around in the 90s. I got this at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shops.
And that's really about it for now. October has the potential for some fun - it's my MIL Mimi's birthday, Doc's birthday, my DIL Ashley's birthday, and Halloween. We already have the plans for our costumes and for the kids Halloween gifts. Stay tuned!!
