We'll get to the title in a bit. Memorial Day weekend was pretty quiet. We just hung out at home and went over to the in-laws. Luke, Ashley and Preston brought Chinese food and Preston showed us his pictures from his trip to Yosemite. Nothing else of note.
I have a rose bush in the front yard that is about 50 years old. It's a orange rose with a beautiful scent. But look what grew on it :
This is the color that the roses usually are.
I have lived in this house for more than 20 years, and this has never happened before.
On May 23rd, I paired one of my favorite tops with one of my favorite skirts.
I didn't really like the combo, so I am going back to the way I have worn these items in the past.
The next day, May 24th, I had to spend some time creeping around the OR, so I needed something easy to change in and out of. I chose my brown slinky knit slacks and a chiffon top in an animal print with lurex.
I wore one of the necklaces that I got at the Taste of Charlotte a few years back.
On Wednesday May 25th, another outfit that I regret. While it looks good, the red cardigan is cashmere, and was entirely too hot. It is part of a two piece set from Neiman Marcus.
The dress is from BB Dakota. I have the same dress in a botanical print. It was weather appropriate.
All garnet / diamond jewelry.
On May 26th, I wore a silk shantung dress from........ It was too short so I added a fat black lace band.
I mixed different gemstones in my jewelry selections.
These are Jessica Simpson shoes. They are navy suede low wedges and they are covered in crystals on the toe.
Friday the 27th was a day off for Memorial Day. I had Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. I ran some errands so I went very casual in Old Navy shorts and a top from INC.
No makeup, fingernails or jewelry.
I went back to work on May 31st.
On June 1st, I stayed in comfy dress mode. I got this dress in Philadelphia at Boyds. It's down by the Mutter Museum.
I always wear this black plastic waterfall necklace with this dress.
The shoes differ, but these are Nine West.
Speaking of Nine West, this dress is from that brand. I wore it on June 2nd.
I wore a Calvin Klein belt and gold sandals from Thalia Sodi. I have the same pair in black. They are extremely comfortable.
Due to my new reduced schedule, I again had a four day weekend. On Tuesday, June 7th, I wore a sundress from H&M.
I went with red costume jewelry, since there is red in the print. I wore a navy leather belt with gold hardware, but it sat lower than the elastic waist of the dress, so I took it off. The suitcase appears.
Wednesday saw me wearing another favorite dress - this peach sheath from Calvin Klein. I have the exact dress in mint green.
Most of this jewelry is costume.
A good look at the unique ruching on the side. Nine West Mary Janes again.
Thursday the 9th was my last day at work until the 20th. I will be in Indianapolis. I leave tomorrow.
For my last day, some Ann Taylor white slacks, a plain white tank from WalMart, and this lightweight poncho from Coldwater Creek.
I wore a Gucci belt and some costume jewelry.
Remember when Pandi would pee hearts for me? Well, I guess she has stomach problems now !!
My Birchbox came. It is the same coloration as last month. That may come in handy at some point.
Here's what was inside, top to bottom:
1) Re.fill Refillable Beauty Balm - an all purpose balm stick

So let's get to the title of this post. We were sitting in the living room relaxing after lunch when we heard a lot of sirens. We live near Beach Boulevard, our biggest street in Huntington Beach, so we are used to hearing them from a bit of a distance. The hospital is only 0.7 miles away. They sounded like they were right out front, however. Then we heard a loud thud, the unmistakable sound of a car crash.
We had the top of our Dutch Door open. It was 76 degrees. When I looked out, this is what I saw:
Twelve police SUVs, one motorcycle, lots of officers with guns drawn, yelling "Step out of the car !!! Keep your hands up where I can see them." This picture is taken from our front door, with me crouching down.
They extracted four or five girls, all very young looking.
The bronze car closest to the tree is my neighbor's sister's car. It was miraculously untouched. The black SUV had two women and a girl, eight or so, in it.
All of the police vehicles had their lights on.
This is the car that the criminals were in. The air bags deployed.
The firefighters and the paramedics showed up. They took the little girl with them, but she merely appeared to be terrified. The car wasn't drivable, so the ladies went with her. The husband of the older lady showed up about 10 minutes later.
I saw this firefighter last week when she was on another call.
This lady is one of the victims who were hit.
Hello.
Lots of damage to the cars, and lots of debris in the street.
The gang's all here.
The light gray house in the background is ours.
Then the police started removing stuff from the trunk of the bad girl's car.
It turns out that they did a smash and grab at a Kohl's in Huntington Beach, 3.8 miles away.
They took piles and piles of brand new Nike merchandise with the alarm tags still on them.
The civilian guys are from Kohl's - two were in loss prevention at that store, and one is the district supervisor for loss prevention for Orange County.
Then the damaged cars were towed away, and the police vehicles all left. I looked for the event on the news, but found nothing. Biden is in LA, so that is overshadowing most things around here. I also saw that the most frequently robbed stores are Kohl's and Ulta.
Well, that's it for now. I leave for Indianapolis tomorrow morning. I have eight million N95s for the plane. See you when I get back !!
