The Little Old Lady From Pasadena

This weekend, we went up to Pasadena to celebrate Doc's birthday. He is not one for big parties. He just wanted to stay in a hotel and go to the Flea Market at the Rose Bowl. We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott up there. Marriott, as usual, did a wonderful job. Our room looked out on Memorial Park:

We walked along Colorado Blvd, which is the main shopping street in Pasadena. We went to several bookstores to look for antique medical books, which is what Doc collects. It's getting harder for him to find them.

Pasadena is an old city, and has lots of different old homes that are just gorgeous. Here is a Victorian:

And here is a Georgian:

And way up in the hills, there are lots of homes on stilts, overlooking the valley below.

Pasadena was VERY quiet - it almost seemed deserted. I guess that not much happens up there unless there is a big college football game going on.

On Sunday morning, we went and had breakfast at the Bistro in the Marriott. They had an all you can eat omelet bar for $10.95. It was a good deal. Then we drove about 5 minutes to the Rose Bowl for the Flea Market.

They have the Flea Market on the first Sunday of every month. It costs $9 to get in. It's huge.

Here are some of the shoppers. They have everything vintage that you could ever imagine.

You had to cross one of several footbridges to get to one large section of the Flea Market.

All those tents you see here were selling vintage clothing. This is the place to go if you like that sort of thing. And of course, the people watching was magnificent.

There were quite a few old Victrolas for sale.

They were all in fabulous shape, and all were said to be working.

This beautiful model will set you back $485.

Doc only found one book, from 1888. I got a couple of things. First, this La Blanca chiffon scarf.

Then I got two souvenir linen tea towels. One is a map of Royal Britain.

The other depicts the leaning tower of Pisa.

They also had tons of Western stuff- saddles, boots, bridles, cow skulls , and horse shoes galore. I got a particularly well used one.

It is said that if you hang a horse shoe over the door with the ends pointing up, then only good luck will come through that door. We already had one over the garage door, so this one went over the front door.

Today, it's back to work. This is what I wore:

This is a Michael Kors dress in a black, grey and white splatter print.

On top, I wore my Emmanuel Ungaro black blazer. The shoes are BCBG.

I wore a little silver costume egg pendant with crystals.

On my left arm, once again, the Italian silver bracelet, and a white gold wedding set.

On my right arm, a silver mabe pearl ring and my Brighton bracelet.

Friday Hooray

Finally, the end of the week. It has been a rough week for Pandi. She came home from work yesterday with some kind of twisted or sore neck. She would squeak when I touched it. So we have to be very gentle with her and let her rest.

I was all concerned about her last night, so I didn't get an outfit ready. I resorted to wearing one of my super comfortable Antthony Designs pants sets.

This time, it was the black and red version. I wore the purple one a couple of weeks ago.

I wore the silver braided necklace that my mom gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago.

On my left arm, a Brighton bracelet and a white gold wedding set.

On my right arm, the same Italian silver bracelet that I wore yesterday, along with a mother of pearl ring.

This weekend, we are going up to Pasadena for Doc's birthday. The actual birthday is not until the end of the month, but the Rose Bowl Flea Market is the first Sunday of every month, so we are celebrating a little early.

Oh the Shark Bites, and the Bee Stings

Before I explain, let me show you what I wore on Tuesday :

This is a Liz Claiborne blouse and a Merona silk skirt. I have never worn this combo together before.

It just so happens that I had a necklace that matches exactly. Who would have thought?

I thought that a gold chain belt would be the perfect touch.

On my left arm, my yellow gold wedding set and a turquoise/tanzanite bracelet.

On my right arm, a gold bracelet, and a topaz/marcasite ring.

So why didn't I post yesterday? First of all, my outfit was a total fail and my pictures looked like I was 23 months pregnant. I don't even have much of a gut in real life. Then, Pandi stepped on a wasp during our nightly walk. She went crazy - crying and biting at the lump and just being in general agony.
After trying to calm her down, and looking for a stinger (there was none), I finally gave her some Benadryl to calm her. She is ten pounds, so a little less than half a tablet is the dose.

It worked. She fell asleep and in the morning, she was back to her old self.

Emergency averted. This is what I am wearing today :

This is a sweater dress from Neiman Marcus. Also, the first wearing of the JC Penney suede boots that I have had for years.

I wore three silver herringbone chains. I have a fourth one, but I decided that would be too much.

On my right arm, a topaz/moonstone ring and a silver tone costume bracelet with crystals.

On my left arm, an Italian silver bracelet and a white gold wedding set.

Ole, Benise

Last night, I went to a concert with my friend. We saw the Spanish Guitar legend, Benise. I had never heard of him before, but I am willing to try almost anything once, so off we went. I really enjoyed it - he is a fabulous artist, and the entire program, dancers and all, was wonderful. Of course, I wore a themed costume. It was funny, my friend wore all black with red accessories also.

This is a skirt by Clio, a no name sweater tank, and Valentino shoes.

I tossed on a black lace shawl in case the venue was chilly. Doc said that I shouldn't wear black so close to Halloween, but obviously, I didn't listen.

The skirt has some nice ribbon and flower detail at the waistline.

I wore a red pendant for a touch of not black.

On my left arm, my yellow gold wedding rings and a ruby bracelet.

On my right arm, a ruby cocktail ring and a garnet bracelet.

Here is a picture of the venue, the Cerritos Center  for the Performing Arts. This is the third show I have seen there. There isn't a bad seat in the place.

Earlier in the day, I made a little bouquet from Doc's herb garden and brought it to a neighbor.

Today, back to work. This is what I wore.

This is a Joseph A chiffon top and a knit skirt from Apt 9. I am wearing two necklaces - a long chain with tassels and a shorter chain, both costume.

On my left arm, a stretchy crystal bracelet from Saks, and my yellow gold wedding rings.

On my right arm, a stretchy plastic bracelet.

Here is a better look at my necklaces.
