The Classic Corset

Today, I decided to wear a very old dress that I haven't worn for a long time. My memory of it was that it was uncomfortable, my bra straps showed and it was a general PITA. So I tried it again to see if I should give it away or keep it. The only reason I considered keeping it was that Doc loves it.

To solve the bra situation, I wore a tissue thin black tank underneath. And I guess that maybe I was a bit fatter back yonder, because it's not at all uncomfortable (very stretchy fabric). The only problem is the wrinkliness. Not bad for 58 years old (me, not the dress).

Here is a closeup of the corset style top. One other issue - not at all work appropriate on it's own.

Once I have it covered by a longer length Dana Buchman blazer, it's okay to go. Also, I wear a lab coat length exam jacket when I am out on the floors in the hospital, so my professionalism is intact.

Two necklaces, both my mom's legacy. One is a shorter silver herringbone chain, and the other is a KJL costume pendant.

On my right arm, an onyx spaceship ring and a studded leather wrap around bracelet.

On my left arm, two silver bracelets, a round solitaire, and my new bling, a small diamond eternity band. The stones go all the way around.

The verdict is : keep one more year, unless I find the perfect person to gift the dress to.

Bang Bang Boom

The fireworks in Huntington Beach last night were crazy. They have been legal for about 5 years now, I think. They started at about 8:00 and ended about 11:30. Since we didn't have Pandi last year, we didn't know how she would react. It was a non-event - she slept the entire time with her lambie.

As far as Doc and I, we didn't go anywhere to see the fireworks. We can stand out in our front yard and see both the Disneyland and the Anaheim Stadium fireworks in the distance.

We did BBQ, however. Delicious rib eyes, rice and grilled onions.

Fortunately, there were three bones - Kenni, Vinni and Pandi.

On the third, I went out and did a little shopping, since I had two days off. I wore a navy blue lace dress with flip flops. Pretty simple.

I wore a teardrop crystal necklace for some type of bling.

I bought two things - a pair of Franco Sarto unfinished tan leather sandals, and a dress from Neiman Marcus. They offered to ship it home to me for free, so I accepted. When you go that route, sometimes they toss in some nice cosmetic samples. It should arrive today.

Back to work day. This is a Daisy Fuentes polyester top that is shaped like a scrub top. The navy skirt is from INC.

Simple outfits allow me to wear a lot of stuff around my neck. I wore a jade and lapis necklace, then a sapphire/diamond pendant, then a faux emerald pendant, both on gold chains.

On my right arm, a sapphire/diamond ring, a sapphire bracelet, and a tanzanite bracelet.

On my left arm, an enamel bangle and my yellow gold wedding rings.

Not much else to report - we celebrated my FIL's 86th birthday on Saturday (after he played tennis !!) and then cleaned our big back yard and spread more red bark around on Sunday.

Red White and Blue

Of course!!! Except, these patriotic colors are in two different outfits. Yesterday saw the red and white:

They were combined with pink and black in this Saks Fifth Avenue Black dress.

This dress has a surprise in the back !!! It is also so comfy that It feels like I'm wearing nothing.

I wore three necklaces. The shortest one is a garnet and diamond pendant.

Then we have a black pearl pendant and an amethyst drop on the longer gold ropes.

On my right arm, a leather/goldtone cuff from INC and a ruby/diamond ring.

On my left arm, my Hermes CDC and my yellow gold wedding rings.

Today, we add the blue !!

This is a vintage silk Hawaiian print top and some white DKNY jeans.

I wore the amethyst drop pendant again, along with a gold herringbone chain.

On my left arm, two pieces of vintage costume jewelry - a faux turquoise ring and a multicolored rhinestone bracelet from JBK.

On my right arm, another costume enamel ring, and a gold bracelet.

And that 's all !! Now I only have to work for 5 more hours, then I have 4 wonderful days off!!!

Swinging With Pencils

Pencil skirts and swing tops, that is. Here is what I wore yesterday:

This is a Mossimo knit skirt with a Catherine Malandrino swing top. The skirt print looks like cowhide in the picture, but it's an abstract paint splash type thing.

Since I had to present at a meeting, I brought my Emmanuel Ungaro black blazer for that professional touch.

The top has a pretty beaded trim around the jewel neckline.

And once again, I used my White House Black Market belt as a necklace.

On my right arm, a Brighton bracelet and a marcasite ring.

On my left arm, a leather/crystal cuff that I got in Baltimore, and a mother of pearl spaceship ring.

I got these new Sam and Libby shoes at Target the other day when I went to get Doc some Lucky Charms.

And today, even though the silhouette is the same, the color scheme couldn't be more different:

This is a fruit print skirt that came from some strip mall store long ago. It has strings of seed beads at the hem. The green silk top is the one I got in Burbank at the store that sells clothes worn in TV shows and movies. The red sweater is from Clio and has crocheted bell cuffs.

The weird green resin necklace appears again !!!

I got my June Birchbox before I went to Portland, but I never showed you what I got.

From top to bottom:
1) Klorane Sun Lightening Spray with Chamomile and Honey
2) Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleaner
3) Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer
4) Cartier Eau de Cartier Goutte de Rose
5) The Beauty Crop Blush Duo in Papaya Don't Preach

Two Little Warriors

Preston, my grandson, fought in an MMA grappling competition yesterday. He just turned 8, and has been doing this for a couple of years.

It was held at Cerritos College, and kids came from all over southern California.

Here he is, getting his competition belt tied to his gi. That's part of the ceremony.

He overpowered his first opponent easily.

He pinned the other kid, and as you can see, won his first round, when the other little boy tapped out.

The next kid, although smaller than Preston, was like greased lightning.

The other kid got one more pin, but Preston won on points. No one got a tap out.

So Preston ended up winning second place. Here he is, with his dojo mates.

And here he is, with Doc and me.

So who is the other warrior, you may ask? Well, we bought his lime green lamb for Pandi at Wal Mart. It was love at first sight.

Then as I was letting her back into the house from the backyard, Kenni squirmed in. First, he ate all of Pandi's food, then he grabbed her lambie. Even though Kenni is pushing 40 pounds, little nine pound Pandi was having none of that, and snatched her lamb back.

Here's what I wore to the MMA competition:

This is a hot pink silk tunic trimmed in sequins. It has an asymmetric hemline. I wore it with white bermuda shorts.

Just one silver herringbone chain as my accessory.

Today, for work, I am wearing a self made dress. The fabric is so pretty, so I went for a simple style. It has princess seams, and I used red, green and gold ribbon as the belt.

A sparkly red Valerie Stevens cardi topped the look.

Mt garnet druzies showed up again.

On my right arm, a ruby/diamond ring, a ruby bracelet and a garnet bracelet.

On my left arm, a diamond dust bangle and a ruby cluster cocktail ring.

Onto Monday's link!!

Have a great Monday !!!
