The Working Girl

So as you know, my little Elli lives quite the life of a lady who lunches. And she gets very upset if her routine is interrupted by such trivial matters as the housekeeper doing her job. So we devised a new plan for every other Thursday. Here was Elli's face when Doc told her that she had some excitement in store:

So far, so good. Then he brought her into his office and set her up in her own little corner with an office of her very own.

So plush !!! So executive level!!!  She paid rapt attention to all the high level decisions that needed to be made.

She heard that walking meetings are better for your health, and also more productive.

But, she is not exactly a work horse, and so she decided that reclining meetings were better.

           Then it was break time, and she had already had enough of this working crap.

She was a "less than model" employee. But there is a silver lining. She has always wanted to marry a doctor, and she found the man of her dreams :

Dr T !!!!   Looking for love in all the wrong places. Dr T is my husband's associate, and we all love him - but now, he is even Elli approved!!!

Well, enough medical office drama - back to me !!!! What did I wear today?

I am having a Stevie Nicks kind of day. I have on a midi length reptile print chiffon skirt, a grey lurex cowl neck sweater, and a sweatshirt jersey lace trimmed waterfall cardi. So elaborate.

My favorite silver and crystal bracelet and a white gold wedding set. The criss cross band is Swarovksi. I finished the look with grey patterned hose and my grey Nine West shoes.

Oh Say Can You Dee See ?

Well, you KNOW I had to do some shopping while I was in DC -it's in my blood. So my friend, who arrived there before me, found what she calls the second best Marshall's in the world. And I'm thinking she's right, even though I'm not much of a Marshall's fan. I got the dress and the shoes I am wearing today while I was there.

It's a thick knit that survived being rolled up in my suitcase and carted home without suffering even a single wrinkle. I wore a turtleneck under it today, because it was a chilly morning. Here's a better look at the detail on the hem and waist.

               For a touch of professionalism, I wore my Emmanuel Ungaro black blazer on top.

So let's get a better look at the shoes. They are made by Nine West, and are half smooth leather and half patent leather.

                               I wore my matte gold link necklace with the black cabochons.

On my right hand, my Saks white enamel and crystal ring, and on my left hand, my wedding rings and my J Crew crystal link bracelet.

She Wore A Raspberry Beret

And she would have, if she had one- but I don't. But I did wear everything else in raspberry:

A nice classic look. I am wearing my Paloma Picasso belt, an Austrian crystal necklace, and a shorter garnet necklace.

On my left arm, I have my stretchy crystal bracelet from Saks and a ruby cocktail ring.

                                 On my right arm, just a garnet and diamond ring.

I'm Going Green

Not in the ecological sense, although Doc and I are pretty good conservationists. We recycle our grey water out to the garden, and my housekeeper Amy takes all of our recyclables in for money. What I am talking about is my green outfit:

This outfit consists of Ideology wool blend slacks, a ribbed turtleneck of unknown provenance, and my INC green studded cowl neck knit top. My olive pleather jacket is made by TCEC( I never heard of them before). Here's a look at the outfit without the jacket.

This is an example of a bunch of older items that I have combined in a new way. You never know how that is gonna turn out, but I like it. My necklace is a strange doohickey that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I hung it from the gold neckwire that came as part of the Joan Rivers convertible pearl set.

I am also wearing my Forever 21 olive wedge booties and carrying my Aldo handbag that I picked up in Orlando.

On my left arm, I have my Montana green peridot ring and a handmade leather bracelet that I picked up during a charity event.

                          On my right arm, just my creepy green ring from Nordstrom.

My new nail polish is called Gorgeous Grape, by Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle. I don't think that I would call this grape, but I do love the shade. I recently cut all my nails short, because it gets to the point where I have trouble fastening my jewelry, and that's when I have had enough.

Monday, Monday

Not only is it Monday, but it's my first day back to work after DC. Also, we had an approximately 4 hour power outage at the hospital - even though we have plenty of emergency power, it's not good. But now, all is well. Let me show you what I wore today, which is overcast and finally cooler.

My Shelby and Palmer dress that I got in Santa Barbara over Labor Day weekend. Remember?

This time, I wore it jumper style, over a black Cache turtleneck. I wore my Joan Rivers convertible pearl necklace, just like last time.

I further winterized the look by wearing my BCBG black suede boots and black tights.

Leavin' On A Jet Plane , Part Deux

When you last left your intrepid Rosie, this was the scene at Casa de Holtzman:

                          So then, I kissed Doc (not shown, duh) and then Elli goodbye

I then took a plane to Atlanta, changed, and took the next plane to Washington DC. I got there about 7 PM, and called my friend, who was already there. We promptly left for dinner. Where, you ask?

The Laughing Man Tavern. It was recommended to us by my friend's son, and so it was a deal. I had a martini and sliders - 2 Angus and one pulled pork. Then we went to look at the view of the capitol, which is covered in scaffolding, while they repaint it.

                              The next day, my conference started. Here's what I wore:

The Donna Morgan dress that I picked up in Santa Barbara. It did not disappoint. with it, I wore the following accessories:

My Kathy Levine black shoes with the faux bamboo heel, and my INC tassel necklace. On my right arm, a leather and crystal bracelet, and a black diamond ring. On my left arm, a stretchy INC bracelet and my diamond/sapphire ring. That night, we went out for a sumptuous and delicious dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grill.

After a round of Manhattans with two other doctors, we had our dinner. I had cioppino:

             My friend had the New York strip, and one doctor had the whole Maine lobster.

After that, three of us took a stroll over to the Willard hotel, the first hotel opened by J Willard Marriott, in 1927. It is breathtakingly beautiful, and Benjamin Netanyahu was staying there.

It has the cubbyholes where the desk clerk puts the message slips. The flower arrangements were spectacular.

We then cruised around and found a shop with the most adorable purses in the world. Unfortunately, they were also the most expensive purses in the world. so all we did was look.

Then I got all dramatic and posed on the stairs, much to the dismay of the older doctor with us. Oh well.

And this day, October 28th, was my darling Doc's birthday. I left him with a scavenger hunt for his three cards and accompanying monkey videos. We are celebrating properly mid November. But this card I saw in the window of one shop was perfect:

The next day, it was back to the conference for us. At the conference, we had met two cool Texans, Kenny and Scott, and agreed to meet them for cocktails. But I had some time, so I did some sightseeing. I went for a long stroll around the National Mall. First, the US Treasury:

That is a statue of Albert Gallatin standing there. Next, a statue of George Washington, when he was a Lieutenant General.

Almost the whole time, you have a view of the Washington Monument. Here are two of those views:

They are building a new museum called the National Museum of African American Art. It's an upside down trapezoid, covered with the most beautiful bronze scrollwork.

Google it to see the true beauty of this building. Then, I saw the Memorial to the soldiers of World War !:

The newest statue is of Simon Bolivar. They haven't even unwrapped it yet.

Then I walked up a side street and passed Constitution Hall, with its magnificent Columns.

Next was the Octagon, which will be an art museum, as soon as they put in new windows.

The Dwight D Eisenhower Executive Office Building is quite something to see. I actually found it a little gothic and creepy.

Another beautiful old brick building was the Renwick Gallery, a division of the Smithsonian.

A very short distance later, you come upon the White House. There were a lot of security present, due to Netanyahu's presence, as well as Ryan being sworn in as Speaker of the House. Mitt Romney stayed at our hotel, the JW Marriott.

Across the way is President's Park. There are a lot of statues there, but the most famous one is of Andrew Jackson.

Another beauty is of Frederick Williams, the Baron Von Fredericksburg, which is a city in Virginia.

                                          Virginia is a stone's throw away from DC.

Across the street, nestled among the glass and steel office buildings, is St John Bonaventure church, all cheery and yellow.

Another statue depicts Tadeusz Kosciusko, a Polish immigrant, who was a fabulous military engineer. I didn't know who he was, but I am not a history buff. :(

One of the modern buildings is the Federal Court of Appeals. There was a stately fountain inside the courtyard.

The last statue I saw was that of General Lafayette. I really need to study up on my American History, because I have absolutely no idea what his significance is.

Then it was time to meet Kenny and Scott for cocktails. I hurried back to the hotel, passing the Sun Bank Tower on the way.

We met at the Round Robin bar at the Willard. We had drinks, crab cakes and hot pretzels. It was a very pleasant evening, and we chatted with a lawyer/lobbyist, who is involved in solving the California drought situation. Nancy, you were awesome!!!

Then, on Friday, I flew home. I got a glorious welcome from Doc, in the form of lots of kisses and some miniature red roses.

After changing into my usual shorts and T, I kissed my little Elli. Doc said she missed me.

                                              After a while, she had enough of me.

This face just about says it all. This afternoon, we went to a new restaurant in our neighborhood. It's a Mongolian BBQ.

I had the lamb. You get a bowl, fill it with meat and veggies and whatever is on the buffet, and they grill it up and serve it with rice and wontons. One bowl is $6.99, and unlimited bowls are $9.99. I had one bowl, and Doc had unlimited.

Then we took our grandkids their Halloween baskets. Benjamin jumped on his first :

                                       He was only too happy to model his Viking axe.

Little Calista loved her gifts - she was kissing her mice, and wore her bee headband right away.
