A Miracle In May

Last night, we had a nice rainstorm!!! And the mountains got snow!!! I have been hoping and asking the gods for rain for months now. Then it happened. It started about 8PM. I heard a huge downpour and looked  out the French doors to the pool, and it was pouring. Then I got scared that my backyard would flood. Then I was really happy to be over insured - homeowners, flood, earthquake, and an umbrella policy. Such a mix of indecision.

Well, it's mostly cleared out this morning. I hope my lawn and plants enjoyed themselves. Yesterday afternoon, I got a phone call. This is how exciting my life is - the call was from the library. My books are overdue. So on the way home, I dropped two of them off, and renewed the third one. I was fined $3.75. Here is the circular driveway that leads up to the beautiful Huntington Beach Public Library.

See the silver sedan? There was an elderly lady in it, and she was more or less stuck behind the SUV and couldn't figure out how to get out. So the poor thing was moving back and forth like in the Austin Powers movie. Finally, the SUV left and she got away. The library is very eco-conscious - they have huge solar panels covering the parking lot, and the landscaping has all been converted to drought resistant native plants.

Inside, the library is 3 stories tall. In the center, there is a big fountain. They have a lot of plays, author visits, and other activities like genealogy seminars.

So onto my outfit. It's all very old.

My knit pants are by Express, the crinkly blouse is from Stein Mart, and the sweater is by Uniform by John Paul Richard. It came from a store called Robinson May, and they have been out of business for years. Here's another look.

My lumpy pedometer is less obvious in this picture. With a getup this elaborate, very little jewelry is needed. The only pieces I have on are earrings and a necklace.

It's my weird lapis necklace and the matching earrings. Also, I forgot to tell you guys something momentous. I went to Target last week because I ran out of dry dog food. Of course, like every other woman out there, I always take a spin around the Clearance section. Guess what I found??

Grey and silver Sam and Libby booties!!! Remember, I already have the black and gold ones.

Onto the links for today. First, sweet Dawn Lucy is having Fun Fashion Friday over at www.fashionshouldbefun.com. Then, Lauren at www.stylelixir.com is having Friday's Fab Favorites. Lastly, Rebecca at www.xoxorebecca.com is having That Friday Blog Hop. Let's get hopping, and go visit some cool blogs!!!

Great Minds Think Alike

You will see where this is going soon, my friends. But first, what did I do yesterday? Well, before the Clipper game started (boo, they lost), I had a couple of things to do. I generally have to force myself to take a day off from working out, and yesterday was the day. Also, I generally like to buy one or two new things to take along when I go on a trip (which I will be doing in a couple of weeks). So I went to downtown Huntington Beach. When I was shopping a week or so ago, I saw a pair of espadrilles that I wanted to get for the trip, but they didn't have my size. Since they were at Forever 21, I decided to go to the one in downtown HB. This way, I could also take a little walk.

As you can see, it was a nice day, maybe a little breezy. It was also weird to see the streets so deserted. I guess the combo of a weekday right after Cinco de Mayo means the bars and restaurants are empty. Here is the street with the shop - it's usually pretty jammed.

Anyway, they had them in my size. Voila.

They sure look like they will be comfy. We shall see, and I will let you know. Patti from Not Dead Yet Style is looking for comfy shoes for her upcoming trip, so I will do some "research" for her.

Then I came home and wrapped Mother's Day gifts for my mom and Mimi, my MIL. I already showed you what I got them. Here are my mom's shoes, all wrapped up in a reusable box.

Here's Mimi's dry erase board and accessories, all gussied up.

Now I just need greeting cards. Then I hunkered down to watch the game. I am mad at Austin Rivers - as one of the sportscasters says, "He went for the hotdog, but the mustard slipped off!!!" So we lost. Then the doorbell rang. I looked through the glass part of the door and saw a Fed Ex truck. Oh YAY!!! The other thing I wanted for my trip is a new bag, so I ordered one from Neiman Marcus.

It's teal suede with gold trim. It came with a dust bag. Here's a closer look.

Now this relates to the title of the post. One of my links, Tara from www.mixmatchfashion.com is hosting What I Wore to Work, and she is wearing teal and floral. But not only am I carrying my new teal bag, here's what I am wearing today.

More teal!!! This time, it's a velvet blazer by Daisy Fuentes. Here's a better look at it.

It's super old, but I don't wear it very often, so it has lasted. And as far as the floral goes, look at me without my jacket.

My same old, same old black slacks, with a nice thick sweater vest from Karen Kane. It was part of the haul that I got about 10 years ago at the Karen Kane outlet up in Napa. One more close up look at the floral embellishment.

With this outfit, I wore my sapphire parure - matching necklace, ring and earrings.

And on my left hand, the ring, along with three sapphire bracelets.

On my right hand, just one sapphire and diamond ring.

But there's one more item that relates to my great mind being like another great mind. My favorite Thursday link is with Alice from www.happinessatmidlife.com for Throwback Thursday. She just went to Disneyland, and my upcoming trip is to Disney World in Florida for a conference. I was going to go to Atlanta beforehand with my sister, but she fell on her ranch and injured her shoulder. She broke it a couple of years ago, when she fell off her horse. So that leg was cancelled. (Luckily, my next conference in October is in ....... Atlanta!!!, so I will eventually get there).

So have a great Thursday, and I will see you tomorrow!!!!

May Gray

Here in SoCal, May gray leads into June gloom. And today, that old adage is proving to be true:

The corner office pic. It's gray, for sure. And  what else is gray? Me !!!

I am wearing a silk wrap skirt by Due et Due, a tiered mesh tank, and a long ruffled cardi by Style and Co. Here is the getup minus the sweater jacket.

It wasn't until I looked at this picture that I realized that my skirt is on backwards. Oops. So I twisted it around so that the real front is in fact in front.

See? It has three pleats that form the wrap part. I guess I didn't twist it back the right way after putting on my trusty pedometer. I decided to wear my buffalo turquoise and smoky topaz statement necklace with this outfit.

And the rest of my jewelry is also silver. On my left hand,

A silver Brighton bracelet that was a birthday gift from coworkers a long time ago, and a mother of pearl ring. On my right hand,

Three thin silver bracelets and a turquoise/MOP ring that Luke, Ashley and Preston got me for Xmas one year. Note the bandaid. I missed tennis class last week because of the Clipper game, so I hadn't played in 2 weeks. I ended up with 2 blisters - the one on my bird finger is the worst, so I covered it up.  This outfit was also perfectly complimented by my Nine West gray shoes.

I have worn these so much since I bought them last month!!! I wonder what I did without them. So remember Doc and Elli gearing up to cheer the Clippers on Saturday?

They didn't really get it, so I made them change into Clipper colors. But then Elli, being Mexican and all, wore her Brasil uniform to the local Cinco de Mayo party last night to show her national pride. And who should she meet?

An equally well dressed compadre!!! Viva Mexico!!!

So onto the links. Three regulars today, the first being Lindsey at www.thepleatedpoppy.com for What I Wore. Next, Tameka at www.pastriespumpsandpi.blogspot.com for Who's Wearing What Wednesday, and last, Liz at www.shoppingmycloset.com for Style Me Wednesday. Have a great day!!!!

Cinco de Mayo, Part Dos

Well, it's Cinco de Mayo again. All the Mexican restaurants are gearing up for their biggest day of the year. And the Sobriety checkpoints are being erected. Here in Huntington Beach, we have a lot of bars and restaurants, when combined with the beach, make us a most attractive venue for drunken carousing. For myself, I will be having a tennis lesson tonight, then spending the remainder with my little Mexican sweetheart.

She's all ready to party. Arriba!!! Andele !!!

And.... today marks the one year anniversary of The World Through Rosie Colored Glasses. Last year, we were having a major heat wave. Here was Elli, one year ago:

Cooling her jets in the pool. I will be publishing a retrospective post later this week, after I have had time to reflect. But for now, back to business. What am I wearing today?

This skirt is by Loft, and the two sweaters are both Joseph A, although they were purchased on different locations, at different stores. Let's get a better look at this metallic pencil skirt.

It's a very thick metallic brocade, and fully lined. Very comfy. Let's look at the white tank.

It has a vertical cascade of different faceted stones. None of the stones are sequins. I am a little nervous about laundering this tank, because the stones don't seem very secure. We shall see. Now for the cardi:

All of these embellishments are bronze toned, and once again, no sequins. These seem much more securely attached to the sweater, but this is a hand wash item as well. I didn't need a necklace or a belt with this getup, since it's all sparkly on it's own. But on my right hand,

My Swarovski Nirvana in Black Diamond, and my Platinum Cuff. On my left hand,

A gold/diamond dust bangle and a white enamel/crystal ring. I am wearing my black and gold David Aaron shoes.

So that's it for today, except for the links!!! First, Lauren at www.stylelixir.com has Style Sessions. Then, Laura at www.walkinginmemphisinhighheels.com hosts Trend Spin. Both of these ladies are regulars for me. Lastly, a blog that's kind of new to me, Saumya at www.myriadmusings.net has Style Swap Tuesday.

So have a magnifico Cinco de Mayo, and stay safe!!!!

Weekend Wrap Up

It was a busy weekend around the ranch. I had zero interest in Mayweather vs Pacquiao. I figured that Mayweather would wipe the floor with Manny, kind of similar to the way Kenni annihilates Vinni. And that's what happened. Snore.

But, there was another sporting event that I was highly anticipating. Clippers versus Spurs Game 7. I told Elli to get her jersey on and get ready. Unfortunately, this is what ensued:

Noooooo!!! So she tried again.

Ugh. I gave up and let her wear what she wanted. (She cheered for the Clips in Japanese). And how about those Clippers!!! They scored a jaw dropping victory against the Spurs. Now they move on to the next round. Chris Paul scored the winning basket, leaving one second left for the Spurs to try and force overtime. They lost by one point.

My reaction was the same. Afterwards, there was a group hug. Not me and Elli, but CP3 and Blake.

I wish I could squeeze in there. Onto the next round. Much cheering for my Clippers will ensue, beginning tonight.

Anyway, on Saturday, we found ourselves back at Curry and Kabob House for Indian buffet.

More goat curry!!!! Also, all those other yummy goodies you see here. Then we went to get gifts for our mothers for Mother's Day. My mom wanted some Memory Foam Skechers, but with a closed heel. So we went to the Skechers outlet and got these.

Aren't they cute!! They have little crystals on the woven vamp. Then we went to Hobby Lobby for my MIL. We wanted to get her something with a religious theme, because that's how she rolls. We got her a dry erase bulletin board so she can keep track of her engagements.

You can write the dates of the week (like May 1-7) along the top.

We also got her a large ink pad and a stamp that has the Lord's Prayer on it, so she can make her own stationery.

We also got a towel hook for the jungle bathroom. It is an elephant head.

On Sunday, there was much yard cleaning in the morning. After that ordeal, I was more than ready for this:

Free Birds World Burrito!!!! Here is the menu. You pick your item (burrito, bowl, salad) and your meat (chicken, pork, steak) and then have them add stuff.

I got a Freedom Salad with steak.

It had tomatillo dressing. Yum. So now it's back to work, boo. Here is what I wore:

My swirly houndstooth dress from Nordstrom. this time, I wore a black cardi with red lurex flames on the sleeves on top, since it's overcast here today.

I stuck with the wide red satin ribbon belt (the same as the last time I wore this dress).

I wore my diamond and platinum "D" necklace that Doc got me for our anniversary.

On my right arm, my red stone bracelet from Maya on Melrose, and a fire opal band.

On my left, a wedding set and three silver bracelets.

And of course, shoes from my favorite designer, my Calvin Klein pilgrim shoes.

So that about wraps it up. Let's link. First, Cherie at www.stylenudge.com is having Shoe and Tell.  Then, beautiful Patti at www.notdeadyetstyle.com is having Visible Monday. I have missed the last couple of her linkups, but not today!!!
