Nothing exciting has happened, but I will tell you what I have been up to anyway. Maybe it will be amusing. On September 7th, I wore this teal sundress and my Skechers sandals to go for a walk.
This entire period from 9/5 to 9/13 was one gigantic heat wave. On the 5th, we took Jacki over to get her rabies vaccination and it was 95 degrees. On September 8th, we went over to my MIL Mimi's house because our housekeeper was cleaning our house. I wore this baby blue and orange silk dress from Taylor along with suede sandals from Marc Anthony. The necklace is from Joan Rivers.
On September 9th, I had to get my little Mercedes Benz fast and furious car smog tested in order to renew the registration. I wore white skinny jeans, a sky-blue sequined tank from Old Navy, and a vintage silk blouse from Elizabeth Stewart. I tried it tied at the waist and left long and loose. I ended up going with long and loose.
My Ipsy bag came. Inside from top to bottom:
1) Tea Time By Roe New York Chamomile Tean Facial Cleanser
2) Shaina B Highlighting Bronzer
3) Benefit Fan Fest Fanning and Volumizing Mascara
4) Shades by Shan Setting Spray
5) Pinky B Beauty Beauty Sponge
I got a new Halloween decoration for the front porch from Dollar Tree.
I put the old one out in the flower box on my She Shed.
Jacki posed for her official 16-month-old portrait.
She is such a pretty girl, except for her underbite.
Vinni got in on the act.
On September 10th, we went to Savers for Senior Day. I wanted a frame for my butterfly painting. Three large fires ignited during the heat wave - one was arson. They were called the Airport Fire, the Bridge Fire, and the Line Fire. They burned 23500, 54795, and 39232 acres. The first two destroyed about 100 structures, but the Line Fire did not destroy any. The Line Fire was the arson incident - the suspect was a FedEx driver. The worst part is that 13 firefighters from other areas were hurt in a rollover accident on the way home. Eight of them were critically injured.
This picture is from the Savers parking lot - it shows the plume from the Airport Fire.
My brother Bob lives out in Trabuco Canyon by the Airport Fire. These are some pictures that he took from his house.
Here is the frame that I got - I put the butterflies in it.
I also got this platter that looks like ants on a picnic tablecloth.
I hung the Melange Papillon in my She Shed. It's getting to be quite the gallery out there.
On September 11th, I had a few errands to run, so I actually got dressed. I wore this vintage knit sundress from Mary Mc Fadden with black suede sandals and turquoise jewelry.
On September 14th, I went to Home Depot and got plating soil and plants for the two galvanized tubs that came from my in-law's rental house. There are two more in the backyard, but Jacki is not yet trustworthy. I won't fix those up until she stops digging stuff up. I think that will be soon.
I planted Lantana, Fountain grass, and Vinca in them.
The porch survived the heat wave - I cut up cardboard boxes and made them into shades to keep the boiling sun off the plants from about 9AM to 3PM. Nobody died!
On Sunday, September 15th, I decided to get dressed up again to go to Aldi. I wore slinky knit slacks from Iman Global, a vintage tank top in a tie-dye print, and a knit baseball jacket from Bloomingdales.
This next series of pictures was inspired by Donald Trump's comment during the debate.
"They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats, they're eating the pets!"
On Tuesday, September 17th, we decided to go for a long walk in downtown Huntington Beach for our exercise. We were gone for two hours and twenty minutes. I wore printed slacks from H&M and a knot twist top from Gibson. My tassel necklace came from Macy's in Washington DC.
We saw this crazy bird as we parked the car. We saw two of them in our yard two years ago, but they were bright blue and bright red. This guy was regular bird colored. It is called a Pin-Tailed Wydah. These small birds are commonly kept in cages in Southeast Asia and are not found in the wild. They likely escaped at some time and reproduced here.
We started out at Farquhar Park, about a mile from the beach. That is where we usually park.
There are many historical homes in downtown HB. This one was built in 1921.
This Craftsman Bungalow, named Blossom, was built in 1910.
We love this huge boarding house. It has at least four separate units.
This Craftsman has three units, as evidenced by the three mailboxes out front.
This little bungalow was built in 1901. Many oil rig workers lived in HB at the time.
This sweet little cottage is nicely refurbished and was built in 1918.
This is the Longboard Restaurant, about two blocks from the pier. There was a murder there on September 10th. We have had a record year for murders this year - there have been three. Two of them were committed by people who were visiting from other areas.
This is the old jail.
"They're eating the cats!"
They were setting up the pier for a fitness competition that is happening right now. It's called the Wodaplaooza, and they also have an event in Miami.
Robin Samsoe was a 12-year-old girl who was killed by the serial killer Rodney Alcala in 1979. Alcala competed and won a date in an episode of the Dating Game, but his date was so freaked out by how weird he was that she refused to go on their date to Disneyland. Her memorial is at the entrance to the pier.
It was a beautiful day, and we walked all the way to the end of the pier.
Here's one of our famous "Surf City USA" surfers going out to catch waves. There were a lot of surfers out this day.
Looking north.
Looking south.
This is the Palos Verdes peninsula. There are many very expensive homes up there, but the earth is sliding, and all utilities have been shut off. Doc says that PV has been sliding into the ocean since he was a kid.
Looking back up toward Main Street, where the cottages and the Longboard are located.
Perq's is also a very old fixture of downtown HB. It's a rough and tumble bar that caters to an older crowd. I watch the Fire Department log daily, and Perq's has frequent medical calls.
This old building is where Doc had his practice at one time. He loved it down there.
This is the newest multi-purpose building in downtown. The bottom floor is retail and the top three are apartments. A lot of people are opposed to all the development going on around here, but there was a junkyard and towing yard there before, so I think this is better.
We stopped at the library. I got two books, and they gave this this cute bag.
Here's Pandi in her usual position on my bed as I read or watch TV.
Tuesday night, September 17th, was the night of the Harvest Moon. There was also a partial lunar eclipse. You can see it in these three pictures. Doc said that it looked like the man in the moon was wearing a cap.
On Wednesday the 18th, I did a little shopping while Doc went to his cardiology appointment. I wore Fendi slacks, and a red satin top from Daisy Fuentes. I hated the slit in the front of the top, so I will sew it shut.
On Thursday September 19th, we took Mimi for her recheck at the neurologist. We are going to help her get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise per day, to get her blood flowing. I showed her the Silver Sneakers videos on You Tube that are great for seniors to use.
I wore a scuba knit dress from Forever 21 with a black wrap jacket from Rampage and rust suede sandals from White House Black Market.
Yesterday, we went for a walk and then got our last vaccinations for the year. I got the high-dose influenza and the latest COVID. Now that I am 65, I need the high-dose that has four times the antigens that the regular vaccine has. I hate getting the flu.
I wore my Gucci sweatpants, a Caesar's Palace T shirt, and a warmup jacket from Damon's and Draper's, a luxe local brand that has sadly gone out of business. I got a lot of compliments on this getup.
Well, that's all for now! I have a couple of things to look forward to next week. Our new Dollar Tree will open on Thursday - we walk by on our dog walk and we see them setting it up. Then on Friday, we are going to Fiesta Night at the HB Library. I also have an appointment with the gastroenterologist and with my financial planner, so lots of goings-on. Stay tuned!
