Forgetting the Phone

No, I'm not going to disconnect from electronics. I forgot my phone on my desk last night. Since we don't have a land line, it's a good thing that I had nothing to do last night except work out and then walk the dogs with Doc. So today, I have some catching up to do - two outfits in store.

First, what I wore on Thursday:

This satin top was purchased at Stein Mart. It's polyester, so it's easy to care for and I always get a ton of compliments, mostly about the color. The pants have been a long time favorite, but now they have to go - the elastic is all stretched out and I was yanking them up all day long. I have another pair of ivory slacks, so these are getting tossed.

I wore two necklaces, both of which are costume. I got them in Las Vegas a couple of summers ago.

On my right arm, my matching white enamel/crystal ring and bracelet set from Saks. On my left arm, just my wedding rings, which you have seen a lot lately.

Wednesday night , Doc brought me a huge bunch of flowers.

There are red roses, gerberas, white mums and one white lily and one stargazer. See him in there? He's not opened up yet. Also, I made some poached Bosc pears.

I poached them in a simple syrup of white sugar and cinnamon.

I cut the bottoms off so that they would sit flat in the pan.

And they boiled away for about an hour.

I also sauteed brussels sprouts, which we used for a topping on our salad last night.

Onto today, and onto another dress from Connected Apparel. This time, polka dots.

As you can see, I took my own picture in my office, using a timer. So not the greatest quality, but you get the idea. The dress has a cascading ruffle down the front and some ruching on the side. Very flattering and comfy.

My taupe suede wedges are from Max Studio.

I wore my mom's interchangeable necklace - this time, I used the lapis/crystal pendant. The other one is silver with crystal stations.

On my right arm, a silver mesh bracelet, a sapphire tennis bracelet, and a sapphire ring.

On my left arm, a silver/crystal costume bracelet, and a sapphire/diamond wedding set in white gold.

The Heat is On

We are still having our heat wave. Every day we are told that it will cool down........tomorrow!!! So I have to deal with at least one more day of sweating as I get dressed. And now I have a headache as the cherry on top. But at least the power didn't go out. We had some kind of underground explosion here in HB and the power went out to 3700 homes. I may have had to go to work without fluffing my hair. Oh the horror !!!

Anyway, I decided to wear this comfy and pretty Saks Fifth Avenue Black dress today.

It has a surprise in the back. A nice cutout to allow air to circulate. The black suede Mary Janes are Isaac Mizrahi.

I wore a trio of necklaces again. They were all my mom's. The top two are amethyst and the bottom one is a diamond heart pendant.

On my right arm, an amethyst ring that Doc had made for me, an amethyst tennis bracelet, and a coral bracelet from Maui Divers in Honolulu.

On my left arm, more gifts from my mom - three amethyst rings.

The Bees Knees

This title is due to the honeycomb pattern on my dress by Connected Apparel:

This heavy knit dress has ruching on one side, along with a draped overskirt. It is supremely comfy.

Excuse the grumpy face. I was awakened from sleep at 12:30 and couldn't get back to sleep until almost 2. Combine that with getting up at 6:15, and I am definitely crabby.

With it, few accessories are needed. First up, an EBay necklace:

It's only plastic, but the blue adds a nice bit of color to yet another black and white dress.

On my right arm, two gold bracelets.

On my lefta rm, a closeup of my mom's turquoise and tanzanite bracelet. This is one of my favorite pieces out of all the things she left me.

So now, let's link!! Jess at www.elegantlydressedandstylish.com has Turning Heads Tuesday, and Ana Luisa at www.northwestblonde.com has Start The Week Stylish. Then, Kristin at www.theblushblonde.com has Tutu Tuesday, and finally, Rachel at www.garaytreasures.com has Bloggers Who Inspire Me.

Race For the Cure

It was a media weekend. Doc and his office staff represented Bhang at the Race for the Cure in Newport Beach yesterday.

The event was sponsored by the Susan G Komen foundation.

Bhang was generous enough to sponsor me as well.

They made baseball caps, visors and backpack bags, all in the Breast Cancer color pink. As you can see, I was contestant number 13061. The crowd was estimated to be about 20,000.

Here is a look at the team with bags and hats.

We also got dark grey T shirts. The kids carried a bouquet of pink balloons.

Luckily, the race was at 7:15, because we are having a heat wave here in SoCal. Today, the temperature here on the coast is estimated to reach 95 degrees.

These shots aren't very good. I was running and trying to take pictures with the sun beating down. I didn't start running until 9. The walk was at 7:15. If you try to run while others are walking, it just doesn't work out for the first mile or so, because you end up dodging people. I hope you can see all the cheerleaders, dance teams, Boy Scouts, and bands that were along the sidelines, cheering the participants along.

There were a bunch of vendor booths. I ended up with a slew of T shirts and bags, and snacks like chips and Zone bars.

During this fair, Doc was interviewed by a team who is making a documentary on the use of cannabis for palliative care of hospice patients. Doc has been involved in getting the cannabis products donated to Stage 4 hospice patients free of charge, to help make their last days a bit more bearable.
He has been doing this for about a year and a half.

This is the film crew interviewing him and taping his answers to common questions.

And here is Doc and his office staff.

But there's more!! On Friday, the same film crew came out to Doc's office to film the process of getting the patients registered with the State of California.

Elli came along - after all, she is the spokesmodel for Beach Medical.

The crew set up lighting, cameras and sound.

Then they had Doc do a test shot, to see if he was lit correctly, and if he needed makeup or hair.

As agent, Elli inspected the final set.

Then Doc sat and did a lengthy interview.

And that's a wrap!!!! Stay tuned.

Enough about them.So what did I wear today?

This bright blue trapeze dress came from Macy's. It's a no name brand, but it was cheap and it's cute. I wore my BCBG black suede boots with it, to really give the outfit a 60s vibe.

Three necklaces today - the short one was my mom's and is jade and lapis. The long one was also my mom's, and is Austrian crystal. The middle one has always been mine - it's a lab created emerald.

On my right arm, a London Blue Topaz ring, and two gold/sapphire bracelets.

On my left arm, my yellow gold wedding set (not pictured), a tricolor gold bracelet, and the tennis bracelet that matches the lab created necklace.

Whew. Now for the links. Deb at www.elegantlyfashionable.com has Classy Monday, while Cherie at www.stylenudge.com has Shoe and Tell. And we can't forget Patti at www.notdeadyetstyle.com and Visible Monday.
